Old Fire Station #30

Present day Fire Station 30 Fire Fighters visiting Old Fire Station 30 for brunch

The Old Fire Station #30 has a storied past that begins in 1937 when it was originally built in Downey, California, serving as a Los Angeles County Fire Station. In 1950, it was relocated to the corner of 187th Street and Corby Avenue in Artesia, continuing its service as Los Angeles County Fire Station #30. Over the years, it became a vital part of the community, housing an ambulance service and later the Artesia Chamber of Commerce.

restoration

In 2005, the City of Artesia took ownership of the historic building and embarked on an extensive restoration project. The Artesia Historical Society partnered with the City to transform it into a fire service museum. Under the direction of former Mayor and Artesia City Councilmember John Lyon, community volunteers, including former firefighters, contributed to the construction, painting, and other essential tasks. A vintage Ford fire engine, complete with a hand-crank siren, was loaned by the Los Angeles County Fire Museum, adding an authentic touch to the exhibit.

Dedication

Old Fire Station #30 was officially dedicated as part of the Artesia Historic District on June 2, 2012. That same year, the Artesia Historical Society was honored with The Preservation Award from The California Historical Societies in recognition of their efforts. Since then, thousands of school children have visited, learning about the rich history of fire service in their community.
